🙌🏼 COURAGE: HAVING THE GUTS TO FOLLOW YOUR HEART 🙌🏼
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.” - Goethe
.
Courage is having the guts to follow your heart.
.
You might feel you need to have everything figured out before you start. You might plan things out, even have a B plan which is telling yourself you’re expecting it to not work out. You’re one foot in, one foot out.
.
You might think it’s irrational and irresponsible to just go for things. What is irrational is having every step along the way planned. After taking your first step, maybe the circumstances will change and your second step will be obviously infront you. When you have it all planned out, unfortunately you might not pay attention.
.
Courage doesn’t have to be making a big life changing decision like moving to a different continent. Sometimes courage is sharing you’re scared. It’s asking for a hug. It’s being vulnerable and admitting you don’t know what the hell you’re doing. It’s investing in a training not knowing how you’ll pay for it. It’s choosing to love and open your heart again after a heartbreak.
.
You taking a leap into the unknown is letting the universe know you’re in. Then it’s your higher self and the universe’s job to deliver. When you say yes, the universe goes, “Oh look at him/her, they’re taking a leap forward. Let me send some magic and syncronicity their way.”
.
You’ve done the hard bit. Now you wait and see what gets revealed. And before you know it, you know your next step ✨
.
What if I fail?
.
It doesn’t mean anything about you. It only has meaning if you give it. You are here to go for what you love and have experiences. You learn and you try again. You’re also allowed to change your mind and try something else.
.
Who you are is so much more than you’ll ever do. Your essence will always be there, untainted from what you do and beautiful regardless.
.
You have two choices:
.
✨ Settle for what’s comfortable & stay small
✨ Leap into the unknown & grow
.
You can’t do both.
.
There’s nothing wrong with settling for a comfortable job, relationship or life. But comfortable is not the reason you risk everything for the possibility of something absolutely amazing could happen.
.
There is a great quote by Joseph Campbell, “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” Here’s another one I love by Julia Cameron, “Leap and the net will appear.”
.
I was very cautious as a kid. I never broke a bone, neither do I have any stitches. I didn’t jump off places unless I made sure it was safe which was never 😄
.
I had the opportunity to jump off a cliff five years ago in a personal growth training, South of Turkey.
.
Everyone had to jump. When it was my turn, I got to the edge. I wasn’t very excited about it. I looked down and my first thought was, “F*ck this sh*t. I’m not doing this.” I had all sorts of thoughts going on like how it wasn’t safe, getting angry at the situation, imagining scenarios such as coming out of this dead and the training leaders being sued for it. I was torn between, “F*ck it, I’ll just jump.” and “No way, I’m scared.”
.
After what felt like an eternity, I jumped. The relief I felt going in water was amazing. Thinking didn’t make it easier, taking action did. There was nothing to think about. If I didn’t jump, I would’ve been preparing myself forever standing by the cliff. This photo was taken there.
.
I find it’s similar with confidence. Confident people don’t go, “Look at me, I’m confident.” They just are. They are comfortable with who they are. Courageous people don’t go, “Hey I’m brave.” They just are. What makes them courageous is, they take action when it’s true.
.
So here’s a process to bring you from fear to courage:
- Close your eyes.
- Take 3 deep breaths.
- What thoughts are you telling yourself? How are you feeling?
- What is the fear telling you to do? Just acknowledge it without trying to change it.
- Now imagine a big golden ball of light above your head shining bright. It slowly descends onto your head, as it touches your head, your whole body lights up. You’re free of the past and future. You’re just here and now.
- Ask yourself, “What would I love to do?”
- Imagine that fully. Step into that reality and see yourself in it. What’s the emotion of that?
- Follow that.
.
It would be heartbreaking to come to the end of your life and say, “I wish I went for it.” You don’t have forever here, to be really honest and real. Live your heart out NOW ❤️
