🙌🏼 DISTRACTIONS 🙌🏼

Distractions are another form of resistance.

.

There is a great book by Steven Pressfield called, “War of Art” which is all about resistance. He says,

.

✨ “The more resistance you experience, the more important your unmanifested art / project / enterprise is to you - and the more gratification you will feel when you finally do it.” ✨

.

I even had resistance reading the book 😃 I didn’t enjoy the book at all, it was quite confronting, truth bomb after truth bomb. I learnt a lot and I think I’m going to read it again.

.

So why do distractions exist?

.

To keep you where you are, so you stay small and safe. Your Ego is just trying to protect you.

.

When you see them for what they are, you can stop focusing on them and come back to what matters to you the most.

.

.

The more you go to the next level, you’re going to have even more resistance that may be coming up in the form of distractions. It is just an indicator to keep focused and keep going.

.

Distractions will be everywhere. You will never reach a point where you won’t have distractions anymore and it will be a straight line. I even got distracted writing this post many times 😂

.

What will happen though is you will get better at knowing yourself and knowing how you distract yourself. Then you have the power, not the distractions.

.

.

When you resist doing something, you might find inessential activities to do in order to distract yourself. They could be things you needed to do as well, but you might be doing them to avoid doing the actual important thing.

.

I’ll share a cute little story about this, how I distracted myself the other day.

.

I bought something called silver bath to clean my silver jewellery. Just when I was about to sit down to do some work, I had this irresistable urge to go clean my silver jewelleries.

.

The moment I picked up the thing, I knew I was caught by a shiny object and going downhill from there. I did it anyway 😂

.

One of the chains I cleaned turned all weird and the polish on the surface of the pendant got off. I panicked as it’s one of my favourite necklaces. I thought of a solution of coating with a transparent nail polish. I did that. It worked well.

.

So all that was unnecessary 30 minutes derailing onto the land of shiny objects 🙈

.

I laughed at myself, let it go and came back to what I was meant to do in the first place.

.

That’s it. No need to be hard on yourself either. It’s a constant refocusing and coming back to the truth. The more you practice this, the quicker it becomes. Let go and come back 🙏🏼

.

It’s best to catch the distraction ahead of time. The more you know yourself and how you distract yourself, you can see and make a new choice in the moment.

.

Here’s what how you can catch your distractions ahead of time and come back to the truth:

- Close your eyes.

- Take 4 deep breaths.

- Bring your awareness to the task you want to do.

- Notice what it’s bringing up in you. Which emotion? What is that emotion telling you to do / not do?

- If there’s resistance, what is it telling you to do to resolve the tension? Is it scrolling on social media, nagging how hard it is to someone, shopping, a form of addiction etc. Watch out for them knowing they will come in a moment of tension.

- Then come back to the truth by asking, “What’s most important to me right now?”, “What’s in the highest?”

- Act on that and you will create that reality.

.

And be kind to yourself. It’s not about completing something perfectly with no distractions. It’s about how quickly you can catch and bring yourself back to the truth.
